How Can Replacing Your Windows Save You Money?

During the hottest and coldest times of the year, trying to keep your home at a comfortable temperature can make a huge dent in your utility bills.  If you find yourself turning the A/C or heater on and off constantly in an attempt to keep yourself from being too hot or too cold, your house is probably insulated poorly. However, some simple home remodeling can save you money while preventing you from constantly heating or cooling your home.  Just by replacing your current windows with energy-efficient Jeld-Wen windows through JRP Design and Remodel, you can start saving money and living more comfortably. Here’s how.

Low-E Glass Coatings

When a window is labeled as “Low-E” or “low emissivity”, it means that there is a metallic coating on the glass designed to reflect infrared light, keeping heat inside in the winter and outside in the summer. This means less work trying to keep the temperature at a comfortable level. Also, Low-E coatings do not affect the amount of light that is let into your home. Low-E should be considered a standard when upgrading your windows and is often the best choice for energy efficiency.

Keeping out the Ultraviolet

Everyone knows that ultraviolet rays are harmful.  However, you are not in danger of ultraviolet exposure only when you’re outside.  About 95% of the UV rays that reach the Earth’s surface are categorized as “UVA” which are at an equal intensity throughout all daylight hours but are also able to penetrate glass. Depending on the direction of your windows, a larger amount of UV radiation could be making its way into your home. UV rays are not only damaging to your skin, but they can also damage your furnishings, causing their color to fade prematurely. Energy-efficient windows also have the benefit of protecting you and your home from these harmful rays.

Clear Insulating Glass

When a small space is left between two panes of glass, it takes on insulating properties that will help maintain the temperature of your home while allowing the right amount of light through the window completely unaffected. Depending upon the microclimate you live within, having single pane or triple pane Low-E coated insulated glass could potentially cost you less in the long run. If you are not sure which option you should choose, the experts at JRP Design and Remodel will know exactly what you need.

Gas Fills

The next step for making your windows energy efficient is filling the space between the panes with insulating gas. The space between this glass is then filled with either argon or krypton, which are both nonflammable and nontoxic. These further enhance the insulation of the windows while remaining completely invisible. Krypton is known to be more energy-efficient, but you need to be willing to spend a little more since it is more expensive to implement.

Sit Back and Relax

Once your home has been retrofitted with new energy-efficient windows during your remodel with JRP Design & Remodel, sit back in your home and watch the yearly savings stack up, no matter the temperature.  You’ll be able to feel the difference in your home and in your wallet.  JRP Design and Remodel offers Jeld-Wen windows that are completely energy efficient and ENERGY STAR qualified.  Give us a call so we can help you start saving money.
